As the halfway point approaches, and now that I have established more of a rhythm as an Auxiliary and as an Expat, there are a few things I want to make sure I accomplish:
- I want to incorporate more psychology lessons into my classes. Some of the studies and concepts I have researched in my career are SO interesting, and I want to find a good way to share them with students and teachers
- I want to socialize with teachers more. I should spend more time in Aranjuez getting to know the people and the community.
- I want to become a better teacher and engage more students, especially if they are quiet or resist participating
- I want to plan and organize an end of year event for the students such as an American Prom. I have been discussing this idea with some teachers and I think it is a strong possibility!
- I want to go to more Museums. My new friend Enrique recommends the Prado and the Reina Sofia, which are super close to me!
- I really want to visit Granada! Hopefully I can make a fun weekend trip out of it soon
Last but not least, a personal goal of mine is to also have less or no expectations. I really need to learn to just go with the flow and be more present. The American in me needs for things to be so far planned out and predictable, which is a very stressful way to live. Sometimes making so many plans and having high expectations can backfire and prevent you from enjoying the moment. So even though I have a vision of these next few months, I am staying open minded and flexible to new or unexpected experiences. Besides, there might be next year….
